All about “Greening Out”

You’ve heard of the term “whiting out” where you experience crazy conditions including unease, nausea, and some paranoia when you consume cannabis. Weed shakes is similar, and it’s basically a symptom of too much cannabis at once. This can cause nausea and paranoia, but also vomiting, dizziness, sweating, and it can be super scary for people who have anxiety, or panic quite often. The anecdotal evidence does say that greening out is usually happening when you have edibles that are way too potent. Whatever means it may be, whiting out isn’t super scary, and you don’t have to worry about it possibly creating too many bad effects.

What Greening Out Means

Greening out is when you OD on THC, and basically, it gets you way too high. It’s hard to really picture THC causing this, since THC is good for a lot of things. But if you have high levels of CBG, it’ll make you feel nauseous.  Usually, the best way to stop this is to take some time off and do it slowly but surely. Build that THC tolerance.

You should definitely be mindful of how much you’re taking, as they can cause a lot of problems if you take too much. This is because our body’s ECS is what helps control a lot of functions. If you give it too many of these Phyto cannabinoids, sure you’re boosting these levels, but if there is too much, there isn’t much to bind to.

It does bind to serotonin, in the way that it can alter your conscience, and when you take it in larger dosages, it causes greening out, and very much too much overstimulation. There is a condition that involves serotonin overdose, called serotonin syndrome. The symptoms are similar to how greening out is, including confusion, hallucinations, vomiting, a rapid heart rate, vomiting, and nausea. However, this is very unlikely with cannabis.

Some people may throw up due to cannabinoid hyperemesis syndrome. This is rare though, and it may not happen due to one greening out. It can happen if you have alcohol before you have cannabis. It can also happen if you eat too many edibles.

You also may experience this if you inhale too much too fast, or if you have too many drops from a tincture. Basically, your system will eventually get rid of it, but as it absorbs all of that THC, it can make you green out.

How Green Outs Happen

It doesn’t necessarily happen all the time, but it can happen if you do have a lot at once. A powerful dab, a big old brownie, it can definitely cause this.

Sometimes, the uptake is quicker, and that’s through inhalation.

The symptoms of a green out usually include the following:

  • Vomiting and nausea

  • Anxiety and paranoia

  • An increased heart rate

  • Heaviness of the limb

  • A problem with focusing

  • Sweats or chills

  • Hallucinations

  • Issues with breathing

How long this lasts

This basically can last for a variety of differ times. This can happen during the entire high. Sometimes, this can last up to 24 hours or more.  the amount you consume, the amount of THC, your body weight, and the tolerance level all play a part. Your metabolism and what you ate, similar to alcohol, can affect this too.

Usually, this can last about 6-8 at most for the biggest ones. Dabbing can be up to 3 hours, with vaping and smoking being around 8. Edibles can be up to 24 hours, and that’s if you take a lot, so keep this all in mind.
